The Year Ahead in York - Jan 2012

Venue:
Cedar Court Grand Hotel
Speakers:
James Alexander, Leader of the Labour Group
Katie Stewart, Head of Economic Development at City of York Council

This was an exciting opportunity to find out how the City of York is celebrating its 800th year!

In 2012 the City of York will be celebrating the 800th year of becoming a self-governing city with a whole series of events. Highlights included: the Olympic Torch coming to York, a Chocolate Festival, the Mystery Plays, the Festival of Ideas and the launch of the Science and Innovation Grand Tour.

To kick start the year, York Professionals brought you a preview of some of these, so you could find out what they were all about.

Plans are also being developed to position York on the international stage as a City of ideas, innovation and business with a view to developing exports and encouraging inward investment.

We were delighted to welcome:

  • Councillor James Alexander - Leader of City of York Council, who will explain about York 800 and plans for 2012.
  • Katie Stewart - Head of Economic Development for City of York Council, who will talk about ‘internationalising’ the City of York

The Mini Expo style event showcased York in 2012 and included:

  • Chocolate Attractions - a new attraction opening soon in York
  • Science and Innovation Grand Tour
  • Venturefest Yorkshire
  • Festival of Ideas
  • Young Enterprise’s 50th Anniversary

The event was proudly sponsored by the Cedar Court Grand, who are a Strategic Partner of York Professionals.
